About this drink

It takes its name from the Hotel Metropole beside Times Square, where it was the house drink, and appears in George J. Kappeler's Modern American Drinks at the end of the nineteenth century. Structurally it is a Manhattan with brandy for whiskey and dry vermouth for sweet.
