Method

Shake all the ingredients with ice, strain into a chilled cocktail glass and twist a strip of orange peel over the top.

About this drink

The Savoy Cocktail Book of 1930 prints it twice: 'straight', made with Grand Marnier, and 'curled', made with orange curaçao. Either way it is a near-equal build of gin, both vermouths and orange juice, with a dash of bitters holding it together.
