Technique: Stir

Method

Stir the gin, dry vermouth, maraschino, absinthe and orange bitters with ice until cold. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass, add a cherry and twist lemon peel over the top.

About this drink

Named after the Tuxedo Club and the New York community that grew up around it. Recipe books from the turn of the twentieth century print several versions; what they share is a martini of gin and dry vermouth lifted with a little maraschino and absinthe.
